The NADAL® hCG Pregnancy Test (25 mIU/mL) or the NADAL® hCG Pregnancy Early Test (10 mIU/mL) is a rapid, visual immunoassay for the qualitative, presumptive detection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in human urine or serum specimens. The test is intended for use as an aid in early detection of pregnancy and designed for professional use only.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the developing placenta shortly after fertilisation and can already be detected in the early stage of pregnancy in urine and serum. In normal pregnancies, hCG can be detected in both serum and urine as early as 7 days after conception. The hCG level continues to rise very rapidly, frequently exceeding 50 mIU/ml by the first missed menstrual period, and culminates in the 10th-12th weeks of pregnancy in the range of 30,000-290,000 mIU/ml. The early appearance of hCG in urine and blood soon after conception and its subsequent rapid rise in concentration makes it an ideal marker for the early detection of pregnancy. Elevated hCG levels, comparable to the early stages of pregnancy may be associated with a hydatidiform mole or choriocarcinoma. For this reason, these possibilities should be ruled out before a pregnancy is diagnosed.
