The NADAL® Tetanus Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of anti-tetanus toxin antibodies in human whole blood, serum or plasma. This test is intended for use as an aid in the assessment of immunisation status against tetanus toxin and is designed for professional use only.
Tetanus is an acute, often fatal disease caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani producing neurotoxins. These toxins cause a high disease and mortality rate by invading the nervous system. In case of external injuries, an immunisation with tetanus toxoid or its immunoglobulins is recommended. A sufficient concentration of tetanus antibodies in blood is required to confirm immunisation status. This is also valid for individuals who received a tetanus vaccination during infancy or childhood. The immunisation may be insufficient if it was administered incorrectly or if the vaccination took place a long time ago and the antibody concentration has decreased over the course of several years. In order to check the immune status, it is important to determine the concentration of anti tetanus toxin antibodies in the blood. The NADAL® Tetanus Test has been developed for immediate use in emergency rooms and can be conducted on site. In this way, the immunisation status against tetanus toxin can be assessed very quickly. This test detects an antibody concentration of >100 mIU/mL in plasma, serum or whole blood, i. e. the limit above which protective immunity is guaranteed.
