Product description

The NADAL® Strep A Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of group A Streptococcus antigens in human oropharyngeal swab specimens. The test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of Streptococcus A (Strep A) infections in patients showing typical symptoms of a local throat infection. The test procedure is not automated and requires no special training or qualification. The NADAL® Strep A Test is designed for professional use only.

Streptococcus pyogenes belongs to the β-haemolytic group A Streptococcus and is a major cause of throat infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis and scarlet fever. Symptoms range from
a mild sore throat to massive inflammatory reactions, which may be characterised by a severe sore throat, redness and swelling of the mucous membranes, purulent exudate and fever. Scarlet fever is caused by toxin-producing strains. Here, additional symptoms include the typical skin rash, perioral pallor and raspberry tongue. The early diagnosis and treatment of group A streptococcal pharyngitis may reduce the severity of symptoms and the likelihood of later complications, such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. Conventional methods for the detection of a group A streptococcal infection are dependent on the isolation and subsequent identification of the pathogen and often require 24 - 48 hours. Developments in immunological methods for detecting group A Streptococcus antigens directly from oropharyngeal swabs support physicians in diagnosing group A streptococcal infections without delay.
