The NADAL® RPR Carbon Agglutination Test s a non-treponemal slide agglutination test for the qualitative and semi-quantitative detection of plasma reagin in human serum. The test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of syphilis and is designed for professional use only.
Reagins are antibodies to components of damaged tissue from patients infected with Treponema pallidum - the causative agent of syphilis. Treponema pallidum causes damage to the liver and heart with the release of tissue fragments.
The human immune system reacts by forming reagins, i.e. antibodies against these fragments.
