The NADAL® Mononucleosis Test is a fast, chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of heterophile antibodies against Epstein-Barr-Virus (EBV) in human whole blood, serum or plasma. The test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis (IM) and is for professional use only.
Infectious mononucleosis (IM) is caused by the Epstein-Barr- Virus (EBV), which belongs to the Herpes family. Symptoms of IM can include fever, a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. In rare cases, heart problems or problems with the central nervous system can occur. The diagnosis of IM is made on the basis of the presence of heterophile anti-EBV antibodies. Heterophile anti-EBV antibodies belong to the IgM class. They are detected in 80-90% of patients during the first week of illness. The NADAL® Mononucleosis Test is a simple test which uses an extract of bovine erythrocytes to qualitatively and selectively detect heterophilic anti-EBV antibodies in whole blood, serum or plasma in just a few minutes.
