The NADAL® Celiac Disease tTG IgA Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of anti-tTG (anti-tissue transglutaminase) IgA antibodies in human whole blood, serum or plasma samples. The test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of celiac disease and is designed for professional use only.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune intestinal disorder (enteropathy) caused by a permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein that is a component of wheat, barley and rye products. In genetically predisposed individuals, the repeated ingestion of this protein may cause serious lesions of the intestinal mucosa. It is estimated that 1% of the population worldwide are affected by celiac disease. Typical symptoms include chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, gas and weight loss as well as anaemia, osteoporosis, extreme fatigue and delayed growth in children. The diagnosis of celiac disease is based on characteristic histological changes, such as crypt hyperplasia with complete or incomplete atrophy of intestinal villi, as observed in intestinal biopsies. However, serological tests for the detection of circulating anti-gliadin, anti-tTG and antiendomysial antibodies represent less invasive and cheaper analytical methods for the detection of this disease.
