The NADAL® Astrovirus Test is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Astrovirus antigens in human faecal specimens. The test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of Astrovirus infection and is designed for professional use only.
Astrovirus infection is the most common cause of gastroenteritis in children and young people, which has also been observed in adults. This virus is transmitted via the fecaloral route. The main symptoms of viral gastroenteritis are watery diarrhea and vomiting. The affected person may also have a headache, fever and abdominal cramps (‘stomach ache’). In general, the symptoms begin 1 to 2 days following the infection and may last for up to 3 days.
