The individually packed test cassettes are for use in the detection of tramadol. The test will yield a positive result from a cut-off of 100 ng/mL. Unlike test strips, test cassettes require only a few drops of urine for a reliable result. Test cassettes are suitable for use in laboratories, as they are easily integrated into a workflow.
Tramadol is a huge problem in Egypt. Approximately 70 % of all Egyptians who unterwent a detox in 2015 had been addicted to tramadol. Other hotspots for tramadol misuse include Togo, Ghana and Nigeria. Cheap tramadol produced in Chin and India is shipped to Africa and then partly bought up by terrorist groups such as Boko Haram. Between 2014 and 2017 the quantity detected by local customs authorities increased from 300 to 3000 kg. Tramadol is a go-to drug for the lower classes in these countries, as it drives an increase in performance during heavy manual work and makes people forget the problems of everyday life. In 2017, 118,935,898 tramadol tablets were also seized within the EU.
