The individually packed test cassettes are for use in the detection of propoxyphene. The test will yield a positive result from a cut-off of 300 ng/mL.
Unlike test strips, test cassettes require only a few drops of urine for a reliable result. Test cassettes are suitable for use in laboratories, as they are easily integrated into a workflow.
Dextropropoxyphene is a fully synthetic opioid which has since been removed from the market. It is now only approved in Australia as medication. The reason for banning the substance was that it was only moderately effective against pain but had numerous side effects. The opioid is however still in circulation on the black market. When misused, propoxephene has the same desirable and undesirable effects as methadone.
