The individually packed test cassettes are for use in the detection of methaqualone The test will yield a positive result from a cut-off of 300 ng/mL.
Unlike test strips, test cassettes require only a few drops of urine for a reliable result. Test cassettes are suitable for use in laboratories, as they are easily integrated into a workflow.
Methaqualone – branded as Quaalude or Mandrax – was first brought onto the market by the pharmaceutical company Parest in the mid 1960s as a sleep aid, but later abused as a party drug. Nicknamed 'Ludes', or 'soaps', they are consumed alongside alcohol in order to affect the effects, which include euphoria, sexual arousal, lowered inhibition and aggressive overconfidence. An overdose can result in drowsiness, loss of coordination, speech difficulties and in severe cases internal bleeding, convulsions and unconsciousness.
