The individually packed test cassettes are for use in the detection of GHB. The test will yield a positive result from a cut-off of 10 µg/mL. Unlike test strips, test cassettes require only a few drops of urine for a reliable result. Test cassettes are suitable for use in laboratories, as they are easily integrated into a workflow.
Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is consumed on the club scene as liquid ecstasy or 'Gamma oh'. Depending on the dosage, the user experiences euphoria or sedation and has a disinhibiting effect - this is not always safe, and it does not always happen knowingly. For this reason, GHB is also known as a date rape drug. It causes sedation and also amnesia. Victims are unable to act and cannot resist or consciously remember the crime afterwards. There is also a risk of overdose, especially when mixed with alcohol. If proof is to be provided, it is important to be quick. GHB has a short half-life of 6 to 12 hours.
