The individually packaged test cassettes are used to detect amphetamines. The present test yields a positive result at a cutoff of 50 ng/mL.
Compared to test strips, the test cassette requires only a few drops of blood to provide a reliable result. Test cassettes are also suitable for use in the laboratory, as they can be easily integrated into the workflow.
Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, as found in medications such as Adderall®, Dexedrine®, Dexamin®, or Elvanse®, are used, among other things, to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. The same active ingredient and its derivatives are also found in designer drugs such as speed, ecstasy, and crystal meth. Abuse of all forms of amphetamines can lead to addiction, which can bring with it heart disease, psychosis, depression, weight loss, and kidney damage, among other things.
