The AFIAS CRP test is a fluorescent immunoassay (FIA) for the quantitative determination of C-reactive protein (CRP) in human whole blood, serum and plasma. The test is used as an aid in the treatment and monitoring of autoimmune diseases and infectious processes such as rheumatoid arthritis. For in vitro diagnostic use only.
C-reactive protein (CRP) is synthesised by the liver in response to interleukin-6 and is known as one of the classic acute phase proteins and inflammatory markers. CRP is the first acute phase protein to be described and is an extremely sensitive systemic marker of inflammation and tissue damage. The acute phase response encompasses the non-specific physiological and biochemical reactions of warm-blooded animals to most types of tissue damage, infection, inflammation and malignant neoplasia.
