ABO-trol® forte II is a ready for use bedside-test card for the verification of ABO-compatibility prior to blood transfusion. Predropped fluid antisera, with approximately 70 μl of each, anti-A and anti-B, sufficient for one determination, are produced from cell culture supernatants of mouse hybridoma cell lines that secrete antibodies of the IgM type. The test cards are intended be used by qualified and technical personnel only.
„Right before a transfusion of erythrocyte concentrates, native blood, granylocyte concentrates and plasma exchange therapy, the transfunding physician himself or, under his direct supervision, the ABO-identity test (bedside-test) should be performed directly on the recipient (e.g. on test cards). The test material is disposed of. It serves to confirm the previously determined ABO-blood group characteristics of the recipient. The result must be documented in writing. In the case of discrepancies, the laboratory or the transfusion medical institution must be informed immediately.” (Source: “Guidelines for the Preparation of Blood and Blood Components and for the Use of Blood Products (Hemotherapy)”).
The test sera are used to confirm the presence or absence of the blood grouping antigens A and B, respectively on human erythrocytes. They are characterized by quick and stong reactions with possibly present and corresponding antigens through an antigen-antibody reaction.
